Settling Refugees in Canada

Droves of Syrian refugees have escaped the war at home and made their way into Canada where they have been resettled. But with that out of the way another problem arises, how will they fend for themselves? The lucky ones have secured themselves jobs for self-sustenance while others have to depend on donations. So how much money do refugees get in Canada?

Claims started going round in Canada in 2015 that the government was spending more on refugees than it was spending on Canadian pensioners, according to the claim the government was giving refugee families $2500 monthly. Although the Canadian government came out strongly to deny all these claims it did stand by its stance to help the refugees settle into their new life.

The refugees needed jobs but most didn’t have skills to offer back, and this created an impasse with the locals who started feeling like they were being forced to support them out of their taxes.

With the number of Syrian refugees in Canada now standing at around 25,000 there is reason for concern here. On one hand, this is a number that could really eat into the national budget, but on another positive look, this is a number that could be turned into paid labour with good benefits for both sides. Granting the refugees citizenship makes them eligible to pay taxes like everybody else and opens doors for them to work anywhere where their skills are needed.

Big money enterprises like Casinos can also play a huge role in this. With turnovers in the region of millions, Casino owners can use such an opportunity to give back to the society by giving refugees jobs, building affordable housing for them while at the same time making decent money out of it. A win-win for all sides including the government who will be reaping big through the taxes they will accrue from such partnerships.
