Ever since ISIS gained prominence in 2014 on the back of the Arab uprising that gripped the whole region much has happened, and most of it has involved acts of terrorism that has left the world baffled and scared. Led by Hassan Al-Banna, its founder and Sayyid Qutub, its theologian, ISIS has been trying to establish an Islamic caliphate in the region. They have grown so big that they have overshadowed huge terrorist organisations of note such as Al Qaeda and Al Shabaab and are now responsible for the displacement of up to 4,000,000 refugees.

Current ISIS News from the Middle East indicates that Abu Sayed, the emir of ISIS in the Khorasan province in Afghanistan was killed in a US airstrike near the border with Pakistan. Abu Sayed’s death brings it to a total of 3 ISIS-K emirs to have been killed in the past one year with the past two emirs meeting their deaths in July 2016 and April 2017. This is another big blow for the self-proclaimed Jihadist who have been waging war on the world for the past 3 years.

At the moment there are several US led strikes being launched against ISIS militants in the whole region. With the battle for Mosul over attention has now been turned to Raqqa, an ISIS capital in Syria where most of the terrorists are putting up a defensive fight. Tal Afir, a small town west of Mosul and a fierce die-hard strong hold of ISIS is also a prime target of the Allied forces who are looking to uproot ISIS from Iraq completely.

Al Qaim is another remaining stronghold of the terrorist outfit with reports confirming that ISIS has moved most of its leading commanders there after they lost most of their other strongholds across Iraq and Syria. The offensive against Al Qaim is expected to involve the US army and the Iraqi forces in collaboration with advancing militias who have been fighting ISIS for 2 years now.
